A Lifestyle Blog With An African Twist

My Christmas Table - Dessert - Chocolate Puff Puff with Vanilla Ice Cream

Hello fab readers, hope you all had a great Christmas spent with family and friends like I did.  This year Christmas was at my house and I can shamelessly say that we abused this thing called food. Anyone currently in the process of inventing a food breathalyzer so we can all check when we are going over the limit during the holidays?   Anywho, I have decided to do a series of what I prepared for lunch on Christmas day called My Christmas Table and in my own little quirky way, I will start with the last dish of the night and work my way backwards.  These chocolate puff puffs are easy to make and they tick all the sweet treat boxes, even if I say so myself.  Puff puff is a very common West African deep fried doughnut which I have taken to the next level by adding powdered milk to the mixture,  dipping them in dark chocolate and serving with ice cream.  Let me show you how I made them.

Ingredients: 2 cups plain flour, 1/3 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk powder, 1 7g pkt yeast, 1,1/2 cups luke warm water, 200gms dark chocolate, vegetable oil for frying.
First add the yeast to the luke warm water and set aside
Add all the dry ingredients into a large bowl
 Then whisk in the yeast
Cover with cling wrap and stand in a warm dry place for two hours to rise
It will look like this after two hours
Deep fry in hot oil till golden brown
 Drain on paper towel
Then toss in melted chocolate.  I melted my chocolate in a bowl over boiling water.  Serve with ice cream and enjoy.

Wishing you all a happy, safe and prosperous new year.  See you in 2017 by God's grace!
